(MASSACHUSETTS) Beginning today, the fair city of Cambridge is making it easier for performing artists to express themselves. The city wants more buskers so it's eliminating permit fees. The Cambridge Arts Council announcement is meant to offer more opportunities for artists to showcase their talents without having to pay a fee.Believe it or not, one doesn't even have to be a resident. It's open to all. The only slight catch is they want to see your act first before they waive the $40 fee. The performers must stick to the city’s street busker ordinance which sets parameters on performance times, locations, and noise.

(CAPE TOWN) Buskers and street-performers are busy celebrating City Hall's decision to legalize performing in Cape Town.The South African city made news earlier this year when blind busker Lunga Nono was beaten by metro police for busking in St. George's Mall.

Charges against the busker have recently been dropped in favor of new legislation. Nono's guitar was broken in the melee which took place in front of his family and onlooking tourists. A music shop donated a new guitar to Nono who has filed a lawsuit.

Now that the city has come to it's senses about the performing artists and tourism, just about anything goes. (WWW) With the global pandemic inhibiting crowd gathering, the world's first online busker festival took place Saturday as buskers from around the world performed remotely from their homes.World Buskers United featured a full 24 hours of world-class entertainment streamed into viewers homes. It enabled buskers to accept tips to be divided evenly among the performers.

Twelve hosts ran the show which included over 90 buskers from North & South America, Europe, Asia, Australia & New Zealand, and even Africa.

Busker Central reporters took part watching the performers starting at 8 a.m. Eastern (USA).
