FROM THE BUSKER CENTRAL ARCHIVES I'm a singer/songwriter with a Guild 12-string dread...I was living in my travel trailer by a lake in Europe anticipating a sunny afternoon of busking. I took the bus into town and found some terraces. Then I noticed that they were actually two restaurants together spanning about 200 feet along the beautiful river. Since I had a pretty strong voice, I decided it would be more efficient to play them both at the same time and see what happened. To my surprise, I received a ton of coins in my hat. Some were worth $5 each. I went down by the river to count it up of course (that's what buskers do) and found that I had just made over U$135 in only 3 songs! I turned around, bought a beer, some smoke, and took the bus back to my trailer. I had found a city where there were very few buskers...and they just played for the walkby traffic in the downtown shops. I would end up doing this all summer long. I stayed a few times in the best hotel right above the pitch with a beautiful view and watched the world series on tv half a world away. It was all very simple to me. |
